One Man's Arc

Comments:

Salvaged lumber was found on site at this old cotton mill, a restoration project (River Mill Resort).

The wooden spool member (circle) was salvaged from the Ohio River in 2006, it spins in response to the wind.

Comments:

This site is above a highway cutout and has a small access road frequented by rock climbers and hikers.

No fasteners are use with this construction method.

Life Raft

Comments:

Salvaged wood from the Ohio River brought to Madison Consolidated High School; the piece was constructed and donated in conjunction with a student workshop.

The large dimensional lumber member is suspended by a single strand of twine.

Undergraduate Work:

In the beginning of my work I focused on the temporality of experience by not welding my sculptures; I used balance and weight to create stability. I worked with junk and castaway objects, exploring the concept of reuse and rebirth. This work evolved quickly as I searched for context.
Focusing on site specific and sensitive works, having little money, and always wanting to address social issues in public, I discovered locations people had forgotten, even abused. This body of work focused on cleaning out ravines and illegal dump sites along state highways, using the material to erect temporary sculptures at these “pull-offs”, and led to collaboration with the Indiana Department of Transportation and the Jefferson County Solid Waste District. The success of this collaboration ignited a passion for connecting with the everyday person, the unexpected art enthusiast.
